  • We work directly with lumber mills and suppliers to secure consistent quality, competitive pricing, and reliable shipment execution.

  • Lumber is commonly sold using nominal sizes, which are the name or trade size of the product, not its finished physical dimensions.

    • Nominal size refers to the lumber’s original rough-sawn size before drying and surfacing.

    • Actual size is the lumber’s true finished dimension after it has been planed and dried.

During the manufacturing process, lumber is kiln-dried and surfaced on all sides, which reduces its final width and thickness. As a result, the actual size is always slightly smaller than the nominal size.

    Example

    • A 2×4 has a nominal size of 2 inches by 4 inches

    • Its actual size is approximately 1½ inches by 3½ inches

    Why this matters

    • Nominal sizing is the industry standard for ordering and pricing

    • Actual dimensions are what matter for design, engineering, and fit

    • Customers should always reference actual dimensions when precise measurements are required

Unless otherwise specified, all lumber products are listed using nominal dimensions. Actual dimensions may vary slightly by species, grade, moisture content, and manufacturer.

  • We require a deposit of $10,000 to begin processing your order. You will receive your final invoice before your container arrives to your destination port. The remaining balance must be paid in full before the container can be released.

  • Customers are solely responsible for understanding and complying with all local import regulations, requirements, and restrictions applicable in the destination country. This includes, but is not limited to, import permits, licenses, product standards, labeling requirements, phytosanitary or fumigation rules, duties, taxes, and any other government-mandated approvals.

Customers must ensure they are legally authorized to import the goods and that the cargo can be cleared through customs upon arrival. AVIVA International does not guarantee clearance of cargo and is not responsible for delays, holds, penalties, seizures, or additional costs resulting from non-compliance with local laws or regulations.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the customer is responsible for appointing a licensed customs broker or agent at destination and for timely submission of all required documentation and payments. Any demurrage, detention, storage, re-handling, or related charges incurred due to customs issues or clearance delays remain the customer’s responsibility.

By placing an order, the customer acknowledges and accepts these responsibilities and confirms that they have the capability to receive, clear, and take delivery of the cargo in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
